How to choose our laundry detergent: powder or liquid?
When buying our detergent, there are many variables that we must take into account. Both powder and liquid detergents will clean clothes perfectly, but depending on which wash setting we want to do, one will work better.
Powder detergent :
• It is usually cheaper.
• It needs a temperature of at least 30ºC to mix completely with the water.
• It dissolves better in hot water. • Ideal for long cycles.
• They are more active products with more whitening agents. • They are more effective on heavier particle stains such as dirt… as the friction with the machine and the movement of the water cause the soap particles to push these residues of the fibres.
• Powder residue can be found on clothes after a cold wash setting is complete, so it is recommended that this detergent is always used with hot water (long cycles).
Liquid detergent:
• Usually more expensive than powder detergent.
• Dissolves completely in the washing machine for different wash settings.
• The liquid mixes perfectly with both hot and cold water.
• Can be used for both short cycles and long cycles.
• They protect bright colours and are less abrasive with clothing and better for the skin (particularly suitable for people with sensitive skin, babies, people with eczema….)
• They are more effective on greasy stains… It mixes more easily with water, so it penetrates more smoothly between the fibres. The particles of the oils are smaller and it washes them better.
• Liquid detergent can be a great way to pre-treat stains before putting clothes in the washer. A simple trick is to rub the contents of a tablespoon of liquid detergent on the dry stain, so when the garment is put in the washing machine, it is completely removed.
• They are more respectful of the environment.
Final Tip: The effectiveness of all detergents increases with the temperature of the water; better results are obtained with higher temperatures. For this reason, it is best to wash at 40ºC, as long as the garments allow it.
